Java virtual machine is shortly known as JVM. Java virtual machine is the software which interprets compiled java byte code and runs the java program. Java software allows you to run applications called "applets" that are written in the Java programming language.
These applets allow you to play online games, chat with people around the world, calculate your mortgage interest, and view images in 3D. In the past, Microsoft used to provide this java software inside its operating system but due to legal wrangling with Sun Microsystems, Microsoft Java Virtual Machine is no longer available from Microsoft.
